Disney’s The Lion King follows the struggles of the young lion cub Simba, who before long must suddenly face his fate of leading as the leader of the Pride Lands due to the unexpected death of his father, Mufasa. Mufasa, who is a supported King by the animals of the territory he rules, suffers betrayal from from Scar, Simba’s uncle, which leads to his death. This forces the lion cub into into hiding for years, and this is where his coming-of-age story and his subsequent homecoming to The Pride Lands and his destined rule as King.
Taken from the late 1994 movie of the same name released by Disney, The Lion King was beautifully adapted to the Broadway stage by director Julie Taymor and the excellent ensemble and production crew. Its premiere in 1997 was the first of its kind, being a multi-awarded debut.
