& Juliet - Musical Tickets
Sheas Performing Arts Center | Buffalo, New York
New York, theatergoers are in for one of the favorite twists to William Shakespeare's most famous work! Adding in a few changes to one of the excellent original plays spanning multiple generations, the upcoming hit musical, & Juliet, is coming to the theater platform on Friday 22nd November 2024 and to be held in Sheas Performing Arts Center of Buffalo.
Shifting its focus to the central female protagonist of Romeo and Juliet, ‘& Juliet’ changes the original's ending where Juliet decides not to kill herself after Romeo commits suicide and Juliet's subsequent realization of the other joys in life she didn't know about throughout her journey to Paris. Throughout the musical, Juliet meets both old acquaintances and brand new friends that were added specifically for the play. Using a very modern viewpoint, the post-modern play revitalizes the original Shakespearean story and is more fit for the current times.
Rediscover the classics as this ultramodern play unfolds onstage, right in front of you in Sheas Performing Arts Center, and make sure you’re able to secure your tickets before they run out!
When compared to the original plot of the Shakespearean play which was shown live on stage approximately forty decades ago, fans have distinguished the considerable changes that had been applied to ‘& Juliet’, a significantly newer musical based on the same female lead. Shakespeare’s original drama centers around the tragedy that takes place because of rash decision-making and the blind passion of two lovers, which results in the suicide of both Romeo and Juliet. On the other hand, ‘& Juliet’ looks beyond the said tragedy and instead embraces a more positive outlook by focusing on the infinite possibilities of life, even after such painful experiences.
This messaging is evident in the new productionl’s cast of characters, Juliet, and her group of friends, who make a trip to Paris to embrace their identities not just as individuals, but as mighty women. ‘& Juliet’ is a good feminist flip through the eyes of Shakespeare’s wife, Anne Hathaway, who takes control of her husband’s tale and alters the ending of his famous classic. She gives both old characters from the original story a second opportunity to shine, while introducing new and equally empowered women to the story. Going off-script from Romeo & Juliet, the play is able to incorporate popular culture, specifically songs from recent decades, that reflect the growing awareness and self-discovery of each of the leading cast throughout the production. Even the fashion worn by the production’s women give a nod to Romeo & Juliet, while highlighting the contrast between the new musical and the previous classic by pairing Elizabethan clothing and iconography with today’s fashion styles. Each aspect of the production was carefully thought-out to symbolize empowerment and "being able to write your own story".
